Congress is considering big changes to protect small business owners from abusive "drive-by" lawsuits. As a restaurateur, this will provide enhanced protections for your business.

The Issue: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted to improve access and equality for disabled Americans. The law’s integrity, however, is being compromised by an onslaught of abusive “drive-by” lawsuits. These lawsuits are filed against restaurants and other small businesses for minor and correctable violations aimed at extorting costly legal settlements, rather than improving needed modifications.

The Solution: The “ADA Education and Reform Act” (H.R. 620) is bipartisan legislation that would preserve and enhance the intent of the ADA by refocusing efforts on compliance and improved access.  H.R. 620 is a common-sense approach that would allow a business to identify and correct alleged violations before engaging in a protracted and costly legal settlement process.

What Can You Do?: Click here and contact your legislator today. Tell your representative to support the "ADA Education and Reform Act."

Once again, we will see some of the best students in the state competing at the Annual Colorado ProStart Invitational & Sysco Denver Hospitality Cup Competition. This event showcases high school students demonstrating a mastery of culinary and academic skills. They are vying for more than $850,000 in scholarship opportunities. Join us March 2nd at Johnson & Wales University to see these stars in action! The winning teams will represent Colorado at the National ProStart® Invitational event this summer in Providence RI.

+ Do you know a Colorado student pursuing a degree in a restaurant or hospitality related field? The CRF is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Deadline is April 1.

As you are likely aware, Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, with the support of Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, has assembled an independent group of civic and community leaders from around the State of Colorado to determine whether Denver should submit a bid for a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This Exploratory Committee is working, first and foremost, to determine if hosting a future Winter Games would be good for metro Denver and Colorado. That includes, among other factors, identifying ways for the Games to be financed privately and determining what legacy an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games would leave for metro Denver and Colorado. The committee is eager to work with our local, regional and statewide communities and stakeholders to determine if an Olympic Winter Games bid is feasible. Our friends at Visit Denver are hosting a statewide tourism industry webinar to discuss potential benefits and concerns that our industry may have.  Register through the link below to participate on Thursday, February 15 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Register Here.
