We have received new information in response to several questions as to whether face shields are sufficient to meet the facial covering requirement for employees. The answer is no. Following our recent webinar, we reached out to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and received the following clarification: We have not considered these an appropriate replacement for masks. Face Shields can be used in two ways to protect the worker: The first is to provide protection for the eyes; the second is to keep the outside of a cloth face covering, mask, or respirator from becoming contaminated. Face shields are not intended to provide respiratory protection or function as a form of source control to protect others from becoming ill.
