Teen workers fill workforce gaps and bring new risks

As teenagers across Colorado enter the workforce, in many cases for the first time, we’re offering tips for keeping your younger workforce safe.
Over the last five years, Pinnacol claims data show an average of 1,200 Colorado teens are injured or become ill because of their summer jobs.
The data analysis also found that 70% of workplace injuries happened to teens in their first six months of employment. This is because teens are often inexperienced and perform jobs that don’t require extensive training.
Despite the higher risk, employers can create an atmosphere that empowers young workers to ask questions and learn the safe way to do their job.
