Plastic Bags a hot topic, CRA testifies to exclude restaurants from local ordinance

CO Legislative Update
CRA Government Affairs at work in Winter Park over Plastic Bags

As you know, the CRA monitors state and local governments for ordinances and legislation that will impact restaurants in Colorado. The use of plastic bags and other plastic materials has become a hot topic for state and local governments across Colorado, and we are on the frontlines fighting for restaurants.
Winter Park City Council met on February 5th to debate an ordinance that would force food and retail stores to charge a fee for all disposable bags. After testifying about food safety and the hardship of charging customers a fee, the CRA was successful in inserting language that specifically excluded restaurants from the ordinance with a City Council vote of 7 to 1.

CRA’s commitment to representing our members at the local level in Winter Park helped to ensure this ordinance would have NO impact on restaurants in Winter Park. The Colorado Restaurant Association is here to represent your interests at the state and local level so you can concentrate on the business of operating a successful restaurant!

At the State Legislature  there isn’t much to report. We are busy at work negotiating on upcoming pieces of legislation and will have more to tell you next week. Keep up to date on all the bills we are actively working on our website.

More businesses were sued for their website being non-compliant in the first half of 2018 than all of 2017. To help you combat this rising trend, we have a partnership with DigiPro Media to offer CRA restaurant members significant discounts to help identify non-compliant vulnerabilities to your website.
